The roof is put in with the same locking mechanism I’ve talked about before. The instructions say that you don’t have to glue it, but I suggest you do. You don’t have to use a lot of glue because a little will go a long way. To make the roof fit, use a rubber mallet.
This is where I once again mention how important it is to have a strong, well built shell. This is vital. It's basically the heart of your dollhouse. I’ve had to hammer in the staircases, the porch and now the roof. If my dollhouse would have been weak anywhere, it would have already fallen apart because of the hammering. You have to hammer gently but strongly or you won't be able to get some parts in. Wood can be very stubborn. There were areas in the roof where hammering firmly was a must.
When putting in the roof panels, notice the chimney slot. Make sure it's over the chimney side because this is where the top of the chimney will be inserted.
After your roof panels are in, you have to insert the roof key, which is basically a long strip of wood that hides the top ridge of the roof panels, where they join. You have to insert it through the little holes on the top finials. It's not a difficult thing to do. Make sure you sand your roof key so the wood does not snag in the finial openings. Insert one end through the opening and tap with a mallet until it reaches the opening in the other end. You do not have to use glue on the roof key. It will be very hard to keep the glue in place, considering how the roof key has to slide over the top ridge of the roof. Make sure it's nice and centered and your roof is done.
