The Washington 2.0 Dollhouse Day 7

Today, I primed and wallpapered the two roof sides and the front attic wall. The back attic wall doesn’t need wallpaper since it’s not visible; I only stained it inside and out.

The roof is installed using the same locking mechanism I mentioned earlier. Although the instructions say glue isn’t necessary, I recommend using a little, as it goes a long way. To fit the roof properly, use a rubber mallet. I want to emphasize how crucial it is to have a strong, well-built shell. This is essential because it's the heart of your dollhouse. I've had to tap in the staircases, porch, and now the roof. If my dollhouse were weak anywhere, it would have fallen apart from all the tapping. You need to tap gently but firmly; otherwise, some parts won’t fit. Wood can be quite stubborn, and there were places in the roof where firm tapping was necessary.

When installing the roof panels, pay attention to the chimney slot. Ensure it's positioned over the chimney side, as this is where the top of the chimney will go. After placing the roof panels, insert the roof key, which is a long strip of wood that covers the top ridge where the panels join. Insert it through the small holes on the top finials; this is straightforward. Be sure to sand your roof key so it doesn’t snag in the finial openings. Insert one end through an opening and tap with a mallet until it reaches the other end's opening. You don’t need glue for the roof key; it’s difficult to keep glue in place since it needs to slide over the top ridge of the roof. Make sure it's centered, and your roof is complete.
