The Tennyson Dollhouse Day 6

Now that the staircase is nice and dry, you can really see how it looks.

This dollhouse does not bring trim for the interior doors but I can always make them myself out of balsa wood. I glued on crystal beads for doorknobs and installed the interior doors.

I painted the exterior of the dollhouse and all of the inside edges of the windows. This practice is debatable depending on your preference. Some people like to paint the window edges the same color as the window trim but I personally like painting them the color of the wall. I think it gives the windows a more layered and detailed look.

I installed the side door. This gives you a better idea of the color scheme. Keep in mind that the door trim is not painted yet. I’m not going to leave it raw wood, I was just dry fitting it.

The door trims for the dollhouse are kind of tricky. They are double layered and the top layer of the side trims has to meet up with the top layer of the top trim. That’s why the top layer of the side trims are slightly longer than the bottom layer. That’s so they can overlap the bottom layer of the top trim. Keep in mind that the trims lengths aren’t perfect, so you will have to do some of your own cutting to get them to be the right lengths.

The way the window trim goes on this dollhouse is not like it is on the front box picture so don’t use it as a guide.

The parts available in the kit and the kit instructions are designed to make the windows look as I have them in these pictures, not like on the box. Luckily the instructions for the window trim are pretty good so follow them closely. Dry fit a window on a flat surface first before you install them on the dollhouse.

Also the dollhouse trim is very confusing but, again, the instructions seem to cover them very well. Follow them closely.

I installed the front door. Installation of doors on dye cut dollhouse requires a lot of sanding and muscle. A palm sander will work great to get the job done quicker. You have to paint each door and window part separately before installation and you have to paint each part on all sides. Even the sides that go glued to the wall. Edges are sometimes visible through the windows.
