The Rosedale Dollhouse Revisited Day 8

When working on a dollhouse with white trim, the door assembly process has both straightforward and challenging aspects. Laminating door components before painting simplifies the overall process, allowing for a uniform color application. The most intricate part of the project involves the windows. Achieving a seamless appearance requires meticulous sanding of window edges before installing interior window panes. This ensures a smooth, integrated look from interior to exterior, particularly when dealing with laser-cut dollhouse details.

Siding installation demands careful planning and technique. By applying siding after installing primary components, you can more easily cut around square surfaces. It's advisable to postpone installing window sills, oval windows, and roof trims until after siding to maintain a polished finish. Hot melt glue works effectively for siding attachment, as these elements don't bear structural load. Birch veneer siding tends to lay flatter with this adhesive method.

However, paint application will inevitably cause slight warping, which is typically minimal and barely noticeable to the naked eye. The warping results from the natural grain variations in each veneer strip. When painted, these strips expand differently, creating subtle bumps and ripples. Interestingly, walls with more components tend to disguise these minor imperfections. Despite the challenges, birch veneer siding offers an incredibly realistic appearance that pre-milled options cannot match. The key is careful application and understanding that some minor variation is part of the crafting process.
