The Pierce Dollhouse Day 2

I finished painting the underside of the foundation today.

Now you have to deviate from the instructions. The next step to take according to the instructions is to glue all of the windows into their openings. This is impossible to do because if you want to wallpaper, you have to put the windows in afterwards. You also want to paint the dollhouse outside first before putting on the outside windows. Having said that, you still have to put in some windows now, not all, because some of them will be inaccessible once the dollhouse is fully assembled. So you have to continue assembling in sections.

The first thing I did was put up the walls. Since the walls are vertical, you need to use tacky glue because it won't drip. Use clamps as you go along. I had no problems fitting the slots and tabs during this whole process.

I put up all the walls that were possible to do so BEFORE the second floor is put in. Once the instructions get to the second floor step, stop because you need all of these walls to dry completely before applying pressure to them. Make sure everything is clamped tightly and nothing shifts while waiting to dry.

While the assembly dried, I punched out all of the windows. This dollhouse has a lot of window parts. Nothing comes pre-assembled, so make sure you label them according to the schematics to prevent loss. I labeled and organized them according to room and location. I put them in envelopes but you can also bag them.

I prepared the second floor. I painted the ceiling white and drew the wood planks on the floor side.

The assembly dried after several hours. If you wallpaper, prime or try to insert the floor, while the glue is not thoroughly dry, your structure can pull apart as the wood warps from moisture. So wait as long as it takes for everything to be dry.

I primed all of the walls on the first floor. I painted the window openings so there is no raw wood sandwiched between them when glued on.

I marked the walls to know where each room ends and begins. This is good for the wallpapering stage. That way you keep the pattern of wallpaper you want, in the room you want it in.

The dining and living room on this dollhouse run together without a partition dividing them other than the staircase that falls in the middle. This means that if you plan on using different wallpaper prints for the dining and living rooms, you will have to find where one room ends and the other begins. This has to be done behind the staircase along the front door wall. The most common place would be where the front door wall meets the dining room wall. That way, the front door is part of the living room. You can finish the front door wall in a completely different way than your dining and living rooms. Just keep in mind that if you do decide to use the same wallpaper print for both rooms, you will need more than three sheets, as this is a very large area to cover.
