The McKinley Dollhouse Week 5

Before installing the base, you may want to paint the underside of the dollhouse. This step is optional since this area will not be visible once the drawers are in place, except when the drawers are pulled out. However, painting raw wood serves both aesthetic and protective purposes.

Since I chose to finish this area, I ensured that my work would not interfere with the movement of the drawers. I applied one coat of high-quality paint to everything, then lightly sanded for a smooth finish and made touch-ups. I used spackle to fill in any gaps at the joints, making sure to push it deep into the spaces so it wouldn’t affect the drawers once it dried.

Next, I painted the side of the base sheet that faces the drawer section, applying one coat of paint, sanding it, and making touch-ups as well. Once dry, I glued it in place and clamped it tightly. After securing it, I used a long paintbrush to wipe away any glue that may have seeped out of the joints. It’s important for the joints to be smooth and free of obstructions. Finally, you can use a paintbrush or a long strip of wood to apply spackle to any remaining gaps in the joints.
