Before I continue upwards, I went ahead and finished the drawers.
This part of the assembly is very difficult because these dollhouses are not square or plumb and you are going to try to create working drawers. This can pose a series of problems. It is not as easy as making drawers for furniture.
You will need to sand significantly for these drawers to fit properly and have movement. A palm sander will be your best bet. If you can, take the drawers outdoors for sanding because they will create a lot of dust. You will have to dry fit them in place multiple times until they are loose enough in the openings to work properly.
Afterwards, you have to paint them, sand and fill in any gaps with spackle. Then you will have to give them another coat of paint and lightly sand once more. Once dry, you will have to do more dry fitting and sanding because the paint can cause issues with the drawers movement.
Once the drawers can move well in their openings, you can apply the front lattice decoration. Like I did with the front porch, I painted the front of the drawers black and then applied the lattice to them. This give the optical illusion that you can see through the lattice openings and the area underneath the dollhouse is hollow. You will need to sand and fill in around the lattice edges.
Even though you have sanded all that you can, the drawers can still snag a little when you try to open and close them. You can apply soap, petroleum jelly or lip balm to the edges of the drawers for smoother movement.
Now that the drawers are in place, I was able to apply the back edge trim to all of the floors and walls, for a smooth finish.
