Staircase Assembly for First and Second Floors
When building dollhouse staircases, careful preparation and finishing are crucial. These sub-assemblies are constructed separately and then inserted into the dollhouse, which means the surrounding rooms must be completed before installation.
Finishing the staircase components requires advance planning. Since the staircases are too small to finish after assembly, you must decide on your color and stain treatments beforehand. In this case, the steps will be stained and the risers painted white. Creating a custom stain can help achieve a more precise color match with the dollhouse flooring. By mixing latex acrylic gloss varnish with craft paint, you can control the exact hue and store it for consistent use during assembly.
During assembly, pay close attention to the instructions. Ensure risers are placed correctly between staircase sides, and verify the step overhang to guarantee the staircase will sit flush against the wall.
After construction, use spackling compound to conceal any gaps between components. The second floor staircase includes a back bookcase that must be finished before assembly. Once both staircases are complete, set them aside until the rooms they will occupy are fully finished.
