The Lily Dollhouse Revisited Week 6

Preparing the First Floor Staircase Room

When installing the first floor staircase, you'll need to place 'Partition #1' first. The rigid shell might make insertion challenging, so have a mallet ready to help tap the partition into place. The front wall's existing glue can make partition installation difficult. If a tab breaks during installation, don't worry. Ensure the partition's top edge still aligns with the slot. This is common in dollhouse assembly, where pre-existing glued sections can create tight spaces. Apply wood glue along all partition joints, and allow the partition to dry completely before proceeding.

Prime the walls and ceilings with flat white paint to reduce wood acidity and prevent uneven coloration beneath wallpaper. While working on the first floor staircase, consider adding functional details. For instance, you might create a broom closet under the stairs by carefully cutting a door with a craft knife.

Stain the interior of the staircase before installation, as access will be limited afterward. Wallpaper strategically, focusing on the front wall and staircase wall up to the staircase's endpoint. Be mindful that this wall serves both the foyer and kitchen areas. Ceiling paper and flooring cannot be installed until the staircase is in place.

Before final installation, dry fit the staircase to understand its positioning. Pay special attention to the exposed side, which will be visible from the foyer and living room. Consider finishing options like painting, staining, or adding custom trim. Complete all detailed touch-ups before installing the staircase, as access will be restricted afterward.
