Dollhouse Shell Assembly
Assembling the dollhouse structure requires careful preparation and precision. The goal is to create the basic shell without using glue prematurely, focusing on the interlocking assembly method.
The interlocking system involves sliding pieces together, which is easiest when parts are positioned flat against each other. Begin by laying the dollhouse on its side to insert floors into the center partition. Once floors are in place, position the front and left walls, ensuring all tabs fit securely into their corresponding slots. If tabs are tight, gently use a flat head screwdriver to widen slots. A mallet can help tap pieces into place. For warped floors, use a binder clip to hold them straight.
After initial assembly, apply wood glue to all joints. Spread the glue and run your finger along the joints to remove excess and ensure proper penetration. Check that the structure remains square throughout this process. The gluing process is methodical - first floor joints, then wall joints, and eventually ceiling joints. Between each gluing stage, allow sufficient drying time to prevent glue from dripping. Use masking tape to clamp parts and maintain alignment while the glue sets.
Experienced builders can identify parts through familiarity with typical dollhouse component shapes, detailed schematics, and careful sorting by size and wood grain. The key is patience and attention to detail throughout the assembly.
