After installing the third floor of the dollhouse, I realized I needed to cut an opening for the staircase. I had overlooked using the second floor's staircase opening as a template before assembly, which made the process more challenging but ultimately successful.
I primed the floor and applied the flooring paper, carefully joining the pieces to maintain a seamless pattern. The floor's complex layout required precise piecing together of the paper.
Next, I created template pieces from balsa wood and cut out the railing for the third floor. I installed the railing, which was relatively straightforward since balsa wood is soft and easy to cut with a craft knife. However, I was careful to handle the delicate material, especially when it was wet with paint.
I did a preliminary dry fit of the roof to check for potential issues, though I won't know for certain until actual installation. Despite some imperfections, the railings are functional, allowing my miniature inhabitants to access the third floor without magical intervention. The process required numerous touch-ups and gap filling to achieve a polished look.
With the staircase now complete, I'm ready to move on to the kitchen.
