Before I move on to the kitchen, I need to finish the flooring on the first floor. It doesn’t require staining, which is why I was able to wallpaper first. It only needs sanding and varnishing.
Regarding the flooring, I will be using templates for the second floor. If your dollhouse is wired, you should do the same. Since the flooring is applied to a template away from the dollhouse, you can do this before or after wallpapering—it doesn’t matter. If you’re restoring original floors and they need staining, be sure to finish that before wallpapering to avoid accidentally staining your new wallpaper. The wood flooring in this dollhouse is in good condition, with just a few minor buckles along the edges that can be easily covered with baseboard molding. I sanded the floors with fine-grit sandpaper and applied a first coat of varnish.
After it dried, I sanded again and applied a second coat. The floors now look as good as new.
