Wallpaper
I used yellow gingham and polka dot scrapbook paper for my dollhouse. Small dollhouses are ideal for scrapbook paper since it comes in smaller sheets compared to miniature wallpaper. Scrapbook paper is particularly useful for modern patterns or seasonal prints that are often unavailable in miniature wallpaper.
Floors
I wanted to add designs to my floors but couldn’t find any stencils I liked that were the right size. Instead, I decided to use temporary tattoos I had on hand. These tattoos stick on with water, so I took a chance and tried them on wood. I was unsure if they would work since wood is different from skin, but once I applied the first one, I found they adhered just as well. They do not lift, peel, or flake off.
First, I sanded the floor and removed all dust. Then, I stained it with a color I liked using an acrylic paint mix. After the floor dried completely, I arranged all the tattoo patterns to see how they would look. It was important to ensure I had enough tattoos before starting.
To apply the tattoos, I peeled off the clear plastic from the desired design and placed it face down where I wanted it. Using a sponge brush, I applied water to the back and waited for the paper backing to loosen. It’s important to use plenty of water and keep it pressed down until the backing is loose; sliding off the paper backing is crucial to avoid lifting the design. The tattoos are thin and delicate, so care is needed during application.
Once the backing was removed, the tattoo remained in place, resembling stenciling or inlay. Finally, I applied a gloss varnish over the entire floor to protect the tattoos and give it a shiny finish.
