The Buttercup Cottage Dollhouse Day 1

The Buttercup Cottage Dollhouse is an excellent choice for beginners to learn the tab-and-slot assembly process. It is an affordable kit that offers charm and includes many features found in larger dollhouses, allowing you to practice your skills.

This dollhouse features double-hung windows, and I've explained how to assemble them as best as I can. If you're still unsure, there's a detailed tutorial by Deb Roberts available here.

I constructed the shell first and, while waiting for it to dry, I worked on various components that could be assembled separately for later installation. I put together the door, chimney, window boxes, and the bay window seat. Building the window seat first and then attaching it to the dollhouse is much easier.

I primed the walls and painted the ceiling white. For the downstairs room, I used two different wallpaper patterns - stripes on the top and a solid color on the bottom. I plan to add trim where they meet to create a chair rail effect.

The dollhouse windows are designed to look double-hung. To create the interior "casing," I painted over the wallpaper with white paint, which is easier than cutting pre-pasted wallpaper. Once painted, it's undetectable. Fit the casing into each trim before gluing the entire window in place. This approach simplifies installation and helps avoid damaging the parts.
