The replacement window sheet arrived today, and I successfully repaired the front door window. I installed the window and reattached the trim I had removed. After spackling the joints, I sanded and painted them.
Now it's time to focus on the roof. This roof is fully assembled away from the dollhouse, so there are several steps to complete before installation. First, ensure that your staircase is finished. You don’t need to worry about the handrails right now; you can add them later. Just make sure the runner is in good shape and that any necessary trimming is done. Once the roof is in place, you won’t have access to the staircase again, and it won't be visible through the windows.
Next, prime and wallpaper your second-floor walls. I encountered similar issues with patched wallpaper as I did downstairs, but since this wallpaper has a heavily patterned gingham design, the patches are nearly invisible. There's no need for beam work on this floor to hide seams.
After installing the wallpaper, finish and install your soffits. Make sure they fit properly into their slots because the entire roof will rest on them. Installing them around the corners can be tricky since they require some pressure. Be cautious with your wallpaper; you want to avoid having any tabs from the soffits break through it. It’s best to apply the soffits after the wallpaper has completely dried, as the hardened paste will serve as a barrier between your wallpaper and the soffit tabs.
Once your soffits are in place, you can finish and glue in your dormer sides. The triangle roof supports should be laminated against the dormer sides opposite the window and will rest on top of the soffit.
There’s a tab on the side walls for attaching two back supports. You don’t need to finish these roof supports since they will be hidden behind the roof, and the dormer sides will cover any view of the soffits. The only supports you should finish are those at the back of the dollhouse; you can finish them to match the dormer sides. Finally, let everything dry.
