The Beacon Hill Dollhouse Revisited Week 20

Back Edge Trim

I don't like the back edge trim that comes with this dollhouse. The pieces, labeled as 'Back Roof Edge', 'Second Floor Back Edge', and 'Third Floor Back Edge', lay flat against the back edge of the floors, but the notches that fit into the interior walls look bad and can't be hidden for a smooth finish. Additionally, when I add my own trim to the back edge of the walls, it never lines up properly, causing the wall trim to overlap. To solve this issue, I decided to create my own back edge trim for a smooth finish that allows my vertical wall trim to fit seamlessly against the floor trims.

You need to buy wood strips from your local craft store, measuring 1/2" wide by 1/4" thick. The length isn't crucial since you can cut them to size, but ensure they are long enough to cover the entire width of your dollhouse. Cut the trim to the correct length and attach it to the back edge of your flooring. Because of its thickness, it will extend beyond the wall notches, which is beneficial as it allows your vertical wall trim to butt up against it. As shown in the pictures, my vertical trim on the back wall fits nicely against the floor trim. I also added another piece along the first-floor edge and will continue this process for each floor.

Keep in Mind

Use clamps to hold everything in place and binder clips to keep it straight. Avoid using masking tape, as it can damage the paper ceilings.
