Today, I worked on installing the mansard roof panels, which was challenging but manageable. The panels are wooden and difficult to bend, even though they are scored. I recommend tracing them onto poster board to help achieve a better curve and easier installation. Using cylindrical objects like tape rolls for clamping helps create the proper roof curve, and the roof needs to dry overnight.
I completed several tasks on the dollhouse, including assembling the porch steps, gluing fascia and corner boards, and installing window sills. When fitting the window sills, patience is crucial. The sills may not initially fit due to painted windows and glue layers, so carefully widen the slots to ensure a proper fit. Avoid forcing them to prevent breaking windows or sills. For the door installation, I first attached the door trim and allowed it to dry. The door fit was somewhat challenging, requiring sanding to achieve proper placement. I installed the front dormer arch trim and roof, painting the barrel beforehand to ensure complete coverage.
I assembled the porch in stages, attaching layers and trim while mounted on the dollhouse for a cleaner finish. I discovered I had accidentally installed the front porch piece backward, but found a simple solution by modifying the notches instead of completely dismantling the assembly. Throughout the process, careful preparation, patient fitting, and strategic gluing were key to successful dollhouse construction.
