Today, I finished installing the left gable trim and touched up the paint on the dollhouse. I also shingled the front of the dollhouse by creating a template for the roof panels and hot gluing the shingles to it.
After applying a black wash to the shingles, I did a final paint touch-up around the dollhouse. For now, I painted the top roof ridge to minimize its visibility, but I plan to get a dowel for it tomorrow. I also need to buy skinny sticks and skewers to complete the interior trim and cover the exposed edges of the floors and walls at the back. I added finials to the front roof peaks, which effectively conceal the dowel ends and enhance the dollhouse's detail. I made these finials from punch-outs of the porch rail, reminding me to save interesting shapes in a ziplock bag for future projects. I glued dowels to the top roof ridge and painted it, though it's hard to see against the black-washed shingles.
Additionally, I used skinny sticks to cover the exposed edges of the walls and floors at the back and created baseboards with them. I also used dowels to trim the gaps between the wall and gable wall joints in the bedroom and bathroom, and I added curtains throughout. For extra detail, I placed skewers in the ceilings and dormer corners and added trim to the staircase where the wallpaper meets the railing. The glue is still wet, so some white is still visible.
This dollhouse will be donated to a nursing home where the residents will enjoy many hours of decorating and play.
