When you open a cabinet grade dollhouse kit, you'll discover a collection of precisely crafted components designed for easy assembly. The kit typically includes pre-cut parts made from cabinet-grade plywood and/or MDF (medium density fiberboard), featuring smooth surfaces and intricate details.
Kit Components
The kit contains various pre-prepared elements like exterior walls with pre-milled siding, porch railings with spindled posts, and a complete staircase with rounded-edge steps. Windows are usually pre-assembled or mitered for simple installation, with acrylic "glass" and optional mullions. Cedar shake shingles and wallpaper might also be included.
Material Characteristics
Most components are three-dimensional and ready to use, eliminating the need for additional cutting or laminating. Plywood parts can be stained, while MDF components cannot. You can distinguish between materials by checking for wood grain - plywood has visible grain, MDF does not.
Preparation and Assembly
Kit preparation is minimal. Lay out all parts, inventory them using the provided schematics, and set aside delicate items like acrylic window "glass" and wallpaper. Assembly requires both glue and nails, with nails recommended for durability due to the heavy, thick materials.
