I visited the craft store today and bought small bouquets of daisies. Although I chose the smallest ones available, they still aren't perfectly scaled. However, I think they look cute. The window boxes on the dollhouse are quite large, so I'll need a lot of flowers to fill them properly. To keep the flowers in the window boxes while allowing for easy redecorating, I filled the boxes with cotton balls just below the top edge. Then, I dipped each flower stem in glue and stuck them into the cotton. This way, I can remove them whenever I want.
I shingled the dollhouse using leftover shingles, which I applied to this little cottage. I mixed part varnish with dark pink paint to create a wash for the dollhouse. I expected the stain to be darker, but it turned out to be a light pink wash that I ended up liking. It highlights the natural wood grain of the shingles beautifully. For the rooftop trim, I used a skewer and added little wood caps as finials on each gable to conceal the skewer ends.
I also found two Hello Kitty heads from hair clips and glued them to the top of the gable trims. With some leftover white trim, I decided to use it as curtains and added red bows on either side to match the red wallpaper. Additionally, you can use Hello Kitty figures from costume jewelry to create door knobs.
