I finished the porch roof today and added a cameo to the front trim using a button that fit perfectly. I assembled the fireplaces, using a computer printout for the interior backs. I also put together the chimney and installed the dining bay doors.
Next, I assembled the kitchen bay roof and glued the chimney in place. I glued all the gable trims, placing the flat trims behind the gingerbread trims instead of in front. This change allows me to add the decorative cameos on top of each gingerbread trim, which wouldn’t be possible if they were positioned behind. I attached the lattice trim and built the front steps.
The dollhouse doesn’t include trim for the bay areas, which look plain without it. So, I created my own trims from scrap pieces of gable trim and skinny sticks for the sides. You can trace the curved bay areas onto balsa wood sheets before assembly and cut out your own trim with a craft knife. If you have the right tools, you can also use 1/8" thick plywood or basswood sheets. Foamcore in 1/8" thickness can be cut with scissors and works well if you plan to paint your trim instead of staining it. Finally, I added the brackets to the tower.
