The Lily Dollhouse Revisited Week 28

Shingling

Shingle templates are not suitable for this dollhouse due to the steep slope of its mansard roof. Instead, you should apply the shingles directly to the mansard panels. To make the process easier, avoid trying to place shingles on the edges under or above the dormers, as these areas are too small for proper application. This will result in a thick, uneven line of tiny shingle pieces. Instead, apply shingles only to the roof next to the dormers. Use hot melt glue to attach the shingles.

You can stain them before or after application, depending on what works best for you; I prefer staining mine after applying them. I worked on the roof in segments.

After finishing the front, I installed the side dormers and continued shingling. The shingles effectively cover any gaps along the sides of the dormers.

I also installed fixed exterior window panes in all the windows. Unlike the interior panes, which I will make operable, these exterior panes are stationary.
