Installing the Dormers
Before installing the dormers, paint the top vergeboard. This vergeboard will need to be filled with spackle in the slots, which should then be sanded for a smooth finish. Also, paint around the exterior of the dormer opening to match the interior of the dormer. Although this edge is not very visible, it's important to finish it properly since you won't have access to it once the dormer is installed. The dormer may not fit perfectly against the edges of the opening, so there might be a slight exposed edge visible through the windows, especially if they are functional.
Next, glue your fully assembled dormer onto the opening. Your main focus should be ensuring that the dormer looks straight from the outside of the dollhouse. It's okay if "straight" doesn't perfectly match the opening; just avoid having crooked dormers. I recommend gluing the tops and bottoms of the dormers to the mansard panel, without worrying about the sides. Gaps may appear on the sides because the curve of the mansard panel might not align with the curve of the dormer side walls. These gaps will be covered later with shingles. Concentrate on making sure the dormers look straight from both front and side views, and hold them in place with masking tape until the glue dries. I also added vergeboard trim and used spackle on the corners.
