Today, I wanted to see the porch rails on the dollhouse, so I couldn't resist adding them. I cut them to size and glued them onto the porch. They are made of polystyrene plastic, which can be glued to other materials with tacky glue, but they won't bond to themselves unless you use a special liquid cement for polystyrene.
I sanded down the sides of the door until it fit easily into the opening. Then, I bricked the sides like I did with the windows yesterday. I chose to keep the pediment that came with the door frame because the door is square instead of arched at the top. Using my Easy Cutter, I removed the "legs" of the door frame and kept just the pediment, which I painted and glued above the door.
With some leftover roof trim, I finished the tops of the porch walls to match the gable sides and added a little trim to each gable peak. I installed all the interior windows and added the final trim that separates the two wallpaper tones in the living room. I varnished the tiles for a glossy finish and glued on the second-floor doorknobs. I also painted all parts of the dollhouse base that I didn't brick and trimmed the back edges of the floors and walls. I decorated a cardboard base to serve as a permanent foundation for the dollhouse.
Next, I assembled the chimney using only schematics since there are no pictures available. I also put together the window boxes.
Finally, I trimmed the inside edge of the interior door opening. There's no need to do the other side because the windows are opaque and that side isn't visible from any angle.
