Micro Dollhouse Project: The Garfield Dollhouse Week 1

Micro dollhouses are in the 1/144" inch scale. They are basically small enough to fit on your palm and are usually referred to as a "dollhouse for your dollhouse", though they can also be seen on railroad displays. I am not sure but it appears as if the company that made these kits, North Eastern Scale Models Inc, has discontinued their production, so finding them might be difficult. Luckily Ron's Miniature Shop in Orlando had a kit left in their brick and mortar store.

I decided to make micro scale project for my Lily Dollhouse. This tiny Garfield Dollhouse will sit in the Lily Dollhouse living room.

As you can see, these dollhouse kits are very similar to a one inch scale, tab and slot dollhouse kit. All of the parts come in sheets and they have to be punched out. Of course, these sheets are paper thin and the parts are extremely tiny. They are also laser cut, so they fit precisely. After all, at this scale, any ill fitting part will be very noticeable.

There is no need for sanding as all of these parts have smooth, laser cut edges. The roof is made of a cardboard composite material instead of wood.

The easiest way to apply glue at this tiny scale, is with a squeeze bottle fitted with a micro tip. These tips use to be available in metal but they are no longer available at my craft store. They do have plastic equivalents. You can find them in the plastic model aisle at the craft store. You need to insert a sewing pin into the tip, to prevent glue from drying inside of it and clogging it up.
