Micro Dollhouse Project: The Garfield Dollhouse Week 1

Micro dollhouses are designed in a 1/144 inch scale, making them small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Often called a "dollhouse for your dollhouse," they are also used in railroad displays. It seems that North Eastern Scale Models Inc, now known as North Eastern Scale Lumber, is the company that produced these kits, but has stopped making them, which may make finding them challenging. Fortunately, Ron's Miniature Shop in Orlando, Florida still had one kit available in their physical store so I picked it up quickly.

This tiny Garfield Dollhouse will be placed in the living room of The Lily Dollhouse. These dollhouse kits resemble one-inch scale, tab-and-slot kits. The parts come in sheets that need to be punched out, and they are very thin and tiny. They are laser-cut for precise fitting since any misalignment is easily noticeable at this scale. There is no need for sanding because all parts have smooth, laser-cut edges. The roof is made from a cardboard composite material rather than wood.

To apply glue effectively at this tiny scale, a squeeze bottle with a micro tip is ideal. While metal tips used to be available at craft stores, only plastic versions can be found now. These can be located in the plastic model aisle. To prevent the glue from drying and clogging the tip, insert a sewing pin into it. You can also use a syringe.
