Now that the floor is finished, it's time to work on the staircases. These staircases are beautiful and enjoyable to assemble, but I want to create something more intricate with this one, which will require patience and time. I plan to use two colors and add wallpaper.
I’m starting with the large staircase on the first floor. If you want to paint your staircases in different tones, make sure to paint and stain all parts before putting them together. The staircase separates the living room from the dining room in this dollhouse, which makes wallpapering a bit challenging. I intend to use two different wallpaper patterns on each side to match the adjacent rooms.
I painted all the balusters, risers, and steps beforehand and then began assembling the staircase. Follow the instructions carefully; there are no shortcuts in this process, and I can’t offer additional advice. Make sure the staircase is facing the right direction by checking the photos closely; it should wind up to the right. I initially thought assembling it would be difficult, but it’s actually quite manageable. Just keep everything clamped as you go along. Masking tape works best because it can fit through the balusters.
Since I plan to wallpaper the staircase, there’s no need to make it look perfect just yet. I placed it on the dollhouse floor to check how the tabs fit, but I haven’t glued it down yet. Wait to install your staircase until instructed. Don’t attach the top posts yet.
If you want to finish the small closet under the staircase, hold off on installing the door for now. This door doesn’t come with trim, so you might want to use the wall as trim instead. The sides are very narrow, making them look more like trim than a wall, which is why I stained mine instead of wallpapering it. I’ve attached the banisters and post trims and will leave everything as is until it dries overnight.
Next, I still need to prepare and hinge the door and wallpaper everything, including the small closet.
