Now that the porch roof is dry, I can unclamp it and start building my porch. The porch is constructed in sections to ensure it is straight. I begin with the top gingerbread, which fits perfectly around the edge of the porch roof. Next, I will install the trellis and continue adding the railing and posts. I recommend gluing the bottom railing trim at the same time as the posts to ensure they fit together properly. The banisters can be added later. Binder clamps will keep the porch straight while everything dries, and then I can attach the roof.
I am working on the second-floor bay. Although it is designed to be removable, I plan to glue mine in place permanently. If you have electrified your dollhouse, you might want to keep the bay removable for easy access in case of electrical issues or to hang a chandelier. Remember to finish the bay's windows and wallpaper before installation. Since my bay will not be removable, I have removed the little lip with a slot that would normally hold the roof tab.
I cannot install the French doors for the other opening of this stairwell yet because this entire room needs to be finished first. I still need to buy fabric for the window seats and install curtains, so I will leave it open for now. To maintain future access to this room, I am making the French doors removable faux doors. They will be attached to the dollhouse but not glued, allowing me to pull them out if needed.
