This dollhouse will have a dark roof, so I used black poster board to create shingle templates.
Shingle templates were essential because the roof has many angles, and the area behind the tower is hard to reach. I wanted to avoid damaging the exterior finishes while painting the shingles after they were installed. I painted the templates after they were shingled, away from the dollhouse, and then glued them to their corresponding roof panels.
It took a long time to attach these tiny shingles one by one and I also added decorative trim to the top edge of the roof.
