Today, I opened the Brimbles Mercantile Dollhouse kit and confirmed that all the sheets were complete. After that, I labeled and punched out all the parts from their sheets. It's important to be careful during this process, as it's easy to lose a part. Some pieces may seem useless and could be discarded, but they are actually important for the dollhouse. I recommend that more experienced builders handle this step. Beginners should leave the parts in their sheets until needed. With experience, you'll recognize the parts just by looking at them, reducing confusion.
Laser-cut kits are generally easy to punch out, but even a smaller dollhouse like this one can have many parts. It may take several days just to punch out and organize everything. Most slots in laser-cut kits are already punched out, making it easier to work with them.
This particular kit requires minimal sanding — just remove any splinters and lightly sand the edges. While there’s no dust from sanding, you might notice blackened fingertips from the burnt edges of the parts, which can release fine black dust when handled.
A few notes about this kit - since it was re-released, the schematics may not perfectly match your sheets. However, the parts can still be found in the corresponding sheets; they may just be arranged differently but are easily recognizable.
Additionally, this kit is a mercantile and includes pre-printed signs on the back of the instruction page. I suggest taking these to a local office supply store to reprint them on higher-quality paper, preferably cardstock. The original signs are not usable because the instructions on the other side show through, which won't look good when displayed. Be careful not to get glue or paint on your instruction sheet, as this could ruin the signs printed on the back.
