The Beacon Hill Dollhouse Revisited Week 12

Finishing The Foyer

Once the floor has been installed, you can install the trim for the portion of the staircase that is in the foyer. Look at the instruction photos carefully, so you know where the trim for the posts and the bannisters go.

I applied finials to my staircase post caps using small wooden dowel caps. You can find them in the wood craft section of the craft store. Finish and glue the finials to the post caps before installing them on the dollhouse. Use a strip of masking tape to keep your finials in place while you paint or stain them.

I also installed the staircase bannister.

Once the part of the staircase was done, I installed all of the door trim for the door ways. You do not need to finish the inside edge of the door openings if your doors will not be hinged. I am leaving the front door edges unfinished for now but I will have to come back later to finish them since this door will be hinged.

I then installed the baseboard trim for the foyer area. If you applied a floor cover like I did, you will want to run your baseboard trim around the bottom of the staircase as well. If you decided to just stain your dollhouses original floors, you do not need to.

I applied a trim piece to the wall of the stairwell opening, since this area will have raw wood visible because the upstairs wallpaper will not reach the foyers wallpaper. Paint or stain this trim piece to match the rest of your trim.

Front Wall

You can install the front wall at this point but you have to wallpaper the foyer area of the wall before installation. If you use a heavily printed paper, you should not see the wall corner joints.

Keep In Mind

You must finish all of your touch ups, baseboards and ceiling trim now because when the front wall goes up, accessibility to this area will be very limited. When your front wall is up, then you can finish the baseboards and ceiling trim that go on it. It will be a tight squeeze but with the front door and bay openings unobstructed, you will be able to get it done. A hand held, small mirror will be of help.
