The Beacon Hill Dollhouse Revisited Week 10

Installing The First Floor Staircase

This is a very difficult process so you need to have patience and a good mallet to work with.

I cut off the top part of my railings so the staircase will fit. You don't have to do this if you assemble and install the staircase according to the instructions but if anyone out there decided to finish their staircase with the trim installed or just accidentally assembled the trim before installation, cutting the tops will allow you to install the staircase regardless.

After the staircase was installed, I began putting back together the cut top railing. It fits just like a puzzle piece. I then spackled in the gaps and painted. I used a piece of string to tie the railings of both sides together so that they line up for the repair. I will leave it tied for a few days so that it is thoroughly dry.

You can also go ahead and install the living room partition walls. There will be gaps along these walls but just use glue at the joints since wallpaper will hide any gaps and add strength. Once dry, you can go ahead and finish wallpapering and apply the ceiling paper.

Keep In Mind

You will sustain damage to your walls and staircase during the installation process. You will need to repair it afterwards.

Repair your wallpaper using tacky glue. It works very well for patches using small wallpaper pieces. It dries flat so it makes it difficult to find the patch. Wallpaper paste will make your patches visible because it dries thickly, bulking up your patched piece.
