The Willowcrest Dollhouse Revisited Week 8

Staircase Wall Installation

When installing the staircase wall, wallpaper it beforehand since you won't have access to it afterward. Prime the wall and carefully dry fit it to determine the foyer location and apply the appropriate wallpaper. If using bordered wallpaper, be aware that aligning borders at corners can be challenging, especially when working on a wall separate from others. Take time to problem solve and ensure a clean installation.

While the wallpaper is drying, inspect the foyer and staircase for any needed touch-ups. Check the top of the staircase where the top riser meets the second floor, and use spackle to hide any potential gaps. Apply ceiling paper around the staircase before installing the wall, as it will become inaccessible afterward. Dry fit the wall carefully, ensuring slots are large and smooth. Use a fingernail file or screwdriver to adjust slot sizes if necessary. When ready to install, use a mallet and be cautious with the wallpaper. Avoid wood glue, as it can stain the wallpaper.

After installation, address any visible wall joints by cutting and folding a wallpaper strip to glue over the seams. Note that the second floor railing cannot be installed until the stairwell is wallpapered. Finally, inspect the work, make final touch-ups, and clamp the wall. Allow it to dry overnight.
