Today, I worked on the bathroom of the dollhouse. It's a small room, and I managed to stucco it, although the ceiling will need to be finished later. I've been enjoying working on the dollhouse in sections; it’s satisfying to see each room come together as I complete them.
I painted the walls and primed the floor with dark brown paint, just like before. I installed the door before laying down the floor covering. This approach works well since I’m not hinging the door, which would require cutting it down to fit. When installing flooring, it's important to work around the roof support. If you don't, you'll end up with an awkward, unfinished area at the front edge that won't blend in with the rest of the floor.
If you notice any cracks or sinking in your stucco, you can easily fix them with spackle. Just fill in the affected areas, texture them to match, and then paint. I had to do this around the chimney slot where the stucco had sunk. I also discovered something interesting for future builds. When using prefinished floor coverings (except carpet), staircases often don’t match because you can't apply the same covering to them. However, I found some leftover shelf liner paper in a dark wood grain that closely matches my flooring. Although photos show a slight difference, they look identical in person. This type of shelf liner comes in both dark and light wood colors and could be a great option for covering staircases to create a cohesive look with the floors.
