Dollhouse Measurements

When using measurements for choosing furniture, remember that you have to take into consideration more than just the square inches in a room. You have to also factor a rooms layout.
  • Staircases, bays, doors and windows many times will interfere with furniture placement and reduce the amount of usable space.
  • Lay out is sometimes more important than size. A dollhouse can have a very large room but if it's filled with windows on every wall, you might have problems placing your furniture.
  • Rooms that are deeper than they are wider, will force you to display furniture on the side walls rather, than front walls.
  • Slanted gable roofs, found in attics and many bedrooms, will interfere with furniture placement.
Below are room measurements of dollhouses I have assembled. These measurements reflect the room sizes if assembled by the instructions specifications.

All measurements are approximations in inches. You have to take into consideration any staircases, stairwells, ceiling beams, bays, gables, chimneys and fireplaces that may take up additional space in each room.

Room Measurement Key
  • Width: measured from wall to opposite wall.
  • Depth: measured from the area closest to you, to the far front wall.
  • Height: measured from floor to ceiling.
Dimensions: The dollhouse dimension follows the same logic as the room measurement key above, except that they are for the whole dollhouse and not just one room.
  • Width: measured from the widest point of the dollhouse, including bays if there are any.
  • Depth: measured from the deepest point of the dollhouse, including bays if there are any.
  • Height: measured from the tallest point of the dollhouse, including towers, chimneys or and finials.
Finally, the most important thing to keep in mind is to make sure your assembled dollhouse will fit through your doorways.
